Use this form to configure a product by selecting the attributes that you want the product to have. For example, a product might have attributes of color and size. The tree structure on the left side of the form displays the components and subcomponents of the product. When you select a component, the attributes and attribute values that you can select for the component are displayed in the body of the form. You can either enter or select values in the attribute fields. If you enter a value in a field that already contains predefined options, the value that you type must match a predefined option.

The fields that are displayed in this form are based on the product configuration model that was created for the product by a product designer. The combinations of the attributes that you can select for product components are specified in the product configuration model. Because products can vary in shape, size, weight, color, and so on, a product designer can specify rules that control whether the form shows or hides attributes and attribute values, based on your selections.

Example

You are configuring the Television product. The form contains Display type and Screen size fields. Depending on the attribute value that you select in the Display type field, the following screen size attribute values are available.

Display type: Plasma

Display type: LCD

Screen size

  • 40

  • 42

  • 46

  • 27

  • 29

  • 32

Note

If the rules that a product designer has specified for a product configuration model contain contradictions, an error message is displayed when you start to configure a product. In this example, the model is in contradiction if screen sizes 27, 29, and 32 are available for a plasma television instead of for an LCD television. If an error message is displayed, contact your system administrator.
