Click Production control > Common > Production orders > All production orders. Select a production order, and then, on the Action Pane, click BOM.

Use this form to create and manage bills of materials (BOMs) for productions. A production BOM is a list of the materials that are required to produce an item in production.

Materials are described by using item numbers, consumption, and a range of other data that is used in production. When you create a production order for a selected item, a copy of the BOM for that item is automatically added to the production BOM from the base data. If the item does not have a BOM, and no number is assigned when the production order is created, the production BOM is still created, but it is blank.

You can change, insert, or delete lines without affecting related BOMs in the base data. You can also copy other BOMs into a production BOM. Changes can be made to production BOMs at any point in the production sequence, up through the Start status. However, after production is started, changes can no longer be made.

Note

If you make changes that affect cost estimation or job scheduling, you must run Estimation, Operation scheduling, or Job scheduling again before you continue.

Setup tab

Define the criteria that are used to process the selected production item. These criteria include the methods that are used to calculate consumption and round the results, and also criteria for measurements. If the production item is a potency item, you can also identify the ingredient type and the related adjustment and compensation principles.

View queries that can be run for the line. The requirement profile shows planned orders, inventory levels, and the receipts and issues that are expected over time.

Open a menu that contains the following items:

  • Adjustment principle – Open the Adjustment principle form, where you can set the properties for an Active ingredient type item. This button is available for active ingredient types only if the Difference additive option is selected in the Adjustment principle field and the properties are not defined.

  • Compensation principle – Open the Compensation principle form, where you can set the properties for a Compensating ingredient type item. This button is available for compensating ingredient types only if the Difference additive option is selected in the Compensation principle field and the properties are not defined.

  • Filler contribution – Open the Filler contribution form, where you can add all item lines that contribute to the fill target of a filler ingredient. You can also specify the contribution of each ingredient.

Ingredient type

Select one of the following options to determine the adjustments that are made during the production of the item, based on the type of the ingredient:

  • None ─ The default value for items that have no fixed base attribute specified. You can also select this value for an item that has a fixed base attribute.

  • Active ─ The ingredient that is specified for an adjustment or compensation that is calculated based on the attribute of the active ingredient or raw material.

    Note

    This is the default value for items that have a fixed base attribute specified. You can also select None for these items.

  • Compensating ─ The ingredient that is specified for compensation to be calculated to either increase or decrease the estimated consumption of the raw material, based on an attribute of another raw material.

    Note

    You cannot select this value if the item has a base attribute that is specified as fixed.

  • Filler ─ The ingredient that is specified for an adjustment to be calculated based on the consumption of a fill contributor ingredient or raw material.

    Note

    You cannot select this value if the item has a base attribute that is specified as fixed.
