See how contacts are engaging with your campaigns

Microsoft Dynamics Marketing is able to track the response of marketing contacts to your various marketing initiatives, including mail opens and clicks, landing page registration, web visits and more. Marketing people are most interested in general trends and statistics that follow the general interest generated by a campaign as spread over the full collection of recipients. Salespeople, however, are much more interested in individual sales contacts and in finding out which marketing initiatives their contacts are being exposed to and how these individuals are engaging them. Use the marketing-engagement features of Microsoft Dynamics Marketing to get a contact-centered overview of how a specific contact or group of contacts are behaving.

To use the marketing-engagement features, your user account must include the following privileges:

  • Behavioral Analysis: to see the marketing-engagement grid.

  • Email Marketing: to drill-down to view a marketing message.

In some cases you may be able to load the Marketing Engagement page even when you do not have the required privileges; in this case, the page will show headings, but no data.

  1. Go to Marketing Execution > Marketing Database > Marketing Contacts to view a list of all contacts in the database (you could also view marketing engagement for staff and client contacts, but you will probably only be interested in marketing contacts). This is a standard list page, which provides the usual controls for searching, filtering and sorting the list (see Learn how to work and get around in Microsoft Dynamics Marketing). Use these control to find the contact or contacts you wish to investigate.

  2. Mark the check boxes for each target contact and then click the Marketing Engagement button in the toolbar.

  3. The Marketing Engagement page opens, with details about your selected contact(s) shown in three tables (Email Marketing, Website Visits and Landing Page Submissions). Each of these provides relevant details for each of the selected contacts. You are able to do the following here:

    • To view details about any of the items listed here (e.g., specific emails), choose that item in the table.

    • Each of the tables here provides the usual sorting, filtering, grouping and paging controls to help you find the details you want when a large number of items is listed.

    • To adjust the date range of items displayed, use the date controls at the top of the page.

    • To download these details as a Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet, choose the Excel button in the toolbar at the top-right of the page.


You can also go to the Marketing Engagement page from an individual maintain-contact page by choosing the Marketing Engagement button provided there. In addition, you can also view marketing engagement details for any contact listed in the Seller Portal by choosing a contact name shown there (see also Use the Seller Portal to see and manage which messages are reaching your contacts).
