Increase Server Availability and Support Burst Demand with Virtualization

The term high availability refers to ensuring that an IT infrastructure is available to users whenever it is needed. When multiple users require the same resource at the same time, some users may have to wait for access.

The traditional way of addressing this issue is by adding servers to the infrastructure. But adding hardware can be wasteful if that new compute capacity cannot be made available where it and the applications that users want are needed. Virtualization, running an application or server on hardware in the data center which is distributed to users on demand across the organization, is the solution to inefficient use of hardware assets.

Virtualization requires some planning to deploy and configure. The resources on this page provide the information and tools that help with this process.
