Applies To: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0

Topic Last Modified: 2008-02-15

In this article:

  • Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0

  • Enable Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0

Before you can upgrade, you must have the following pre-requisite software installed:

  • The Web server and application server computers must be running Microsoft® Windows® Server 2003 (Standard, Enterprise, Datacenter, or Web Edition) with Service Pack 1 (SP1), and must have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 and Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0. Instructions for installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 and enabling Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0 are provided later in this article.

For more information about Microsoft .NET Framework, see the Microsoft .NET Framework Developer Center (https://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/).

  • For server farm installations, the back-end database server computer must be running Microsoft SQL Server™ 2005 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 with Service Pack 3 (SP3) or later.

Install Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0

Go to the Microsoft Download Center Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=72322&clcid=0x409). On the Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0 page, follow the instructions for downloading and installing Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0. There are separate downloads for x86-based computers and x64-based computers; be sure to download and install the appropriate version for your computer. The Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.0 download contains the Windows Workflow Foundation technology, which is required by Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 workflow features.

Important

If you have a previous version of the Windows Workflow Foundation, such as Windows Workflow Foundation Beta 2.2 (build 3807.7), you must uninstall that version before installing this version of Microsoft .NET Framework 3.0.

Note

You can also use the Microsoft .NET Framework version 3.5. You can download the .NET Framework version 3.5 from the Microsoft Web site (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=110508).

Enable Microsoft ASP.NET 2.0

  1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager.

  2. In the IIS Manager tree, click the plus sign (+) next to the server name, and then click the Web Service Extensions folder.

  3. In the details pane, click ASP.NET v2.0.50727, and then click Allow.
