Provide a network location where customers can upload and download files

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can use an FTP site when you want customers to upload or download files. After you publish the address of the FTP site, customers can establish a connection using the FTP protocol and appropriate client software. To set up an FTP site, you must first install the FTP service and snap-in, which are not part of the default IIS installation. Installing the FTP service creates a default FTP site that you can then customize to your needs using IIS 6.0 Manager. A default FTP directory is created on the file system of the Web server at LocalDrive:\Inetpub\Ftproot.

Notes

By default, the FTP service is not installed. Once you install the feature, the FTP site starts automatically the next time you restart the IIS services.
