Standard resource types

Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition and Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition come with numerous resource types that you can use to manage cluster resources.

Internet Information Services (IIS) can be installed on a server cluster. For more information on how IIS runs on a server cluster, view the IIS online documentation.

If you have IIS installed, you can view the online documentation by typing https://localhost/iisHelp/ in your browser address bar and pressing ENTER.

You can install Message Queuing on a server cluster. For more information on the Message Queuing and Message Queuing Triggers resource types and how they run on a server cluster, see Microsoft Message Queuing.

You can install Distributed Transaction Coordinator (DTC) on a server cluster. For more information on the Distributed Transaction Coordinator resource type and how it runs on a server cluster, see Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

Note

  • IIS Server Instance, Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) Server Instance, and Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) Server Instance resource types, previously available on Windows 2000 cluster nodes, are not supported on Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition or Windows Server 2003, Datacenter Edition cluster nodes.
