Best practices for using in-band tools

Try using in-band tools before using Emergency Management Services.

• If your server becomes unstable, try to use in-band tools before using Emergency Management Services to troubleshoot your operating system.

  This is important because Emergency Management Services is designed to be used only when in-band means of accessing and managing the server are unavailable. For example, you would use Emergency Management Services to force your system to reset only if you are unable to reset it using the standard, in-band tools. In addition, be aware that Emergency Management Services is not a complete management solution; your ability to access and manage the server at all times depends upon your hardware configuration.

Enable and configure in-band tools during Setup.

• Because in-band tools can be difficult or impossible to configure remotely after Setup has completed, it is important to enable and configure these tools during Setup. Examples of in-band tools include Terminal Services Remote Desktop for Administration and Telnet.
