To open a saved MMC console for local and remote computers

There are several ways to open a saved MMC console:

  • Open the folder where your console is located, and then click the console.

  • Click Start, click Run, type the name of the console file, and then click OK.

  • You can also open console files by using Run as. With this feature, you can log on to your computer with user rights to perform routine tasks, but open console files to perform administrative tasks with Administrator rights as necessary. You can use this feature by typing runas at the command prompt or by right-clicking an .msc file, and then clicking Run as.

  • If you are using Windows XP Professional or Windows XP Home Edition, click Start, click Control Panel, clickAdministrative Tools, and then click the console you want to open.

  • If you are using Windows 2000, click Start, click Settings, click Control Panel, clickAdministrative Tools, and then click the console you want to open.

Note

  • By default, consoles are saved in the following folder: %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\username\Start Menu\programs\Administrative Tools.
