Spcheck Overview

Spcheck.exe: Service Pack Checker

This command-line tool is used by administrators to determine which service pack is installed on a Windows Server 2003, Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, or Windows NT 4.0 system. SPCheck checks which executable files, dynamic-link libraries, and drivers are installed on the target system. This helps to identify when service packs or hot fixes should be reinstalled, and ensures that all installed services are at the appropriate service pack level.

  • You must run SPCheck from the command window.
  • SPCheck must run under a security context equivalent to the local administrator account.
  • To obtain .ini files for SPCheck, search the Microsoft Web site and/or contact Microsoft Product Support Services.

A service pack is a consolidated release of updates for a specific piece of software.

You can find service packs to download at the Windows Update Web site.
