Before Upgrading to Service Manager 2010 SP1

This section describes several factors to consider before you start the upgrade of System Center Service Manager 2010 to System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1. When System Center Service Manager 2010 was released, it was available both as an English-only version and as an international version that included English and the following languages:
German
Spanish (Spain)
French
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Chinese (Simplified)
Chinese (Traditional)
Portuguese (Brazil)
Russian
The System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 upgrade is only available as an international version that includes English, the 10 languages found in System Center Service Manager 2010, and the following 10 additional languages that were added for this release:
Czech
Danish
Greek
Finnish
Dutch
Norwegian (Bokmål)
Polish
Portuguese (Portugal)
Swedish
Turkish
All 20 languages will be added to an English version of System Center Service Manager 2010 when you upgrade to System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1.
Evaluation, Retail, and Select Versions
The original release of System Center Service Manager 2010 was available in three different versions:
Evaluation version (180-day time-out)
Retail version
Select License version
There are two supported upgrade models with the release of :
Retail version to retail version
Select License version to Select License version
If you started with the evaluation version of Service Manager, you must start with a clean installation of either the evaluation or retail versions of . Direct upgrade from the evaluation version of Service Manager is not supported.
If you started with a retail version of Service Manager, upgrade to the retail version of .
If you started with a Select License version of Service Manager, you must upgrade using the SP1 Select License version of .
No other upgrade combinations are supported. For example, you cannot upgrade from the evaluation or retail version of Service Manager to the Select License version of .
In addition, the original release of Service Manager was available in both an English-only and an International version (the International version included English and 10 other languages). is available as an International version consisting of English and 20 additional languages. Upgrades of both the English-only and International versions of Service Manager are supported with .
Hardware and Software Requirements for Service Manager SP1
The hardware and software requirements for System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 are the same as for System Center Service Manager 2010. Testing the Upgrade in a Lab Environment
We recommend that you test the upgrade of System Center Service Manager 2010 to System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 in a lab environment before you attempt the upgrade in a production environment.
Upgrade Order and Timing
The order of your upgrades is important. Perform the upgrade in the following order:
Start with the data warehouse management server. Your System Center Service Manager 2010 management servers can work with the System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 version of your data warehouse management server.
After the upgrade to the data warehouse management server has been completed, upgrade the initial Service Manager management server. If you created more than one Service Manager management server, the initial Service Manager management server would have been the first one that you created.
Upgrade the Service Manager Consoles, any additional Service Manager management servers, and the Portal de autoatendimento.
The timing of your upgrades is also important. After you upgrade your data warehouse management server, you can wait before you continue. However, after you upgrade your initial Service Manager management server, you must be prepared to upgrade your Service Manager Console(s), additional Service Manager management servers, and Portal de autoatendimento at the same time.
Service Manager 2010 SP1 with an Operations Manager Agent
If you have an Operations Manager agent installed on either your Service Manager management server or data warehouse management server, you must remove the agent before performing an upgrade to .
Backing Up Service Manager Before Upgrading
Before starting any upgrade, we recommend that you back up your Service Manager and data warehouse databases and the encryption key. If you have already backed up your databases and encryption key, you can continue to run the upgrade. Otherwise, review the backup procedures in the System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 Disaster Recovery Guide (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=197181) before continuing the upgrade.
Registering with the Service Manager Data Warehouse
If you have installed a data warehouse management server in your environment, as part of the upgrade process, you must be able to view the status of the data warehouse jobs. You cannot perform this task if you have not registered with the Service Manager data warehouse. If the Data Warehouse button is not visible in the Service Manager Console, follow the procedure in "Registering with the Service Manager Data Warehouse to Enable Reporting" in the System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1 Deployment Guide (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=198071).
Encryption Key
When you have finished running Setup to either install or upgrade to System Center Service Manager 2010 SP1, you are prompted to open the Encryption Backup or Restore Wizard. The encryptions keys that were created for Service Manager work with Service Manager SP1. If you have previously backed up the encryption keys, no additional action is required. If you have never backed up the encryption keys, use the Encryption Key Backup or Restore Wizard to back up the encryption keys on the Service Manager management servers.
