Console Layout for a Stand-Alone or Primary Server

 

The console is divided into two main sections: the Navigation Area and the work pane. The left column is the Navigation Area from which you access the various FPSMC components. The center area is the work pane. The following tables detail the different navigation options.

Home

At a Glance

Displays the At a Glance work pane, shown when the Console starts. This provides information about the managed servers in your environment and shows a summary of all the following activity for the last 24 hours:

  • Exchange Incident Statistics

  • Exchange Spam Statistics

  • SharePoint Incident Statistics

  • Top 5 Viruses (found in your environment)

  • Most Active Servers (based on detections)

The information in the At a Glance work pane is updated when the screen is opened or refreshed to display information for the previous 24 hours. You can see this data at any time by clicking At a Glance.

New Server

Displays the New Servers work pane, used to display automatically discovered servers that can be managed by the FPSMC and have to be added to the console. For more information, see Adding Servers Using Auto Discovery.

Administration

User Management

Displays the User Management work pane, used to add user accounts for people within your organization who need access to the FPSMC. For more information, see Managing Users.

Server Management

Displays the Server Management work pane, used to add servers to or remove servers from the FPSMC database and deploy the FPSMC agent that must be installed on each target server to provide communication between the FPSMC and the servers it manages. For more information, see Managing Servers.

Server Group Management

Displays the Server Group Management work pane, used to allow administrators to group servers into server groups to simplify the server management process. For more information, see Configuring Server Groups.

Global Configuration

Displays the Global Configuration work pane, used to configure the global settings for the FPSMC, including Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server settings for FPSMC notifications and the Statistics Polling interval. For more information, see Configuring Global Configuration Settings.

Online Protection

Displays the Online Protection work pane, used to access the Forefront Online Protection for Exchange (FOPE) Administration Center. For more information see Managing Forefront Online Protection for Exchange.

Quarantine Management

Exchange

Displays the Exchange pane, used to view and manage quarantined items in your Exchange environment. Data can be retrieved and filtered for analysis. Quarantined messages and files can also be viewed, deleted, and delivered. For more information, see Viewing and Managing the Exchange Quarantine.

SharePoint

Displays the SharePoint pane, used to view and manage quarantined items in your Microsoft SharePoint® environment. Data can be retrieved and filtered for analysis. Quarantined messages and files can also be viewed, deleted, and restored. For more information, see Viewing and Managing the SharePoint Quarantine.

Job Management

Packages

Displays the Packages work pane, used to create and configure FPSMC packages. FPSMC packages are configuration settings for the FPSMC to deploy to the managed servers. For more information, see Managing Packages.

Jobs

Displays the Jobs work pane, used to create, modify, delete, or view FPSMC Deployment, Signature Redistribution, Schedule Report, and Product Activation jobs. For more information, see Managing Jobs.

Reports

Incident Detection

Displays the Incident Detection work pane. This report provides statistics about malware and filter detections. For more information, see Incident Detection Report.

Spam Detection

Displays the Spam Detection work pane. This report provides statistics about spam caught by the different spam detection features of FPE. For more information, see Spam Detection Report.

Engine and Definition Versions

Displays the Select Engine and Definition Versions Report work pane. This report provides a quick view of the signature file versions deployed throughout the environment. This allows administrators to easily determine which servers are current and which still need updating. For more information, see Engine and Definition Versions Report.

Logs

Notification Logs

Displays the Notification Logs work pane, which include FPSMC activity logs for Deployment, Redistribution, Schedule Report, New Server Discovery, Product Activation and Agent Deployment jobs. For more information, see Viewing and Managing Notification Logs.
