Creating a Package

You can create policy packages in Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC). Policy packages are configuration settings stored in XML files that are exported from a Forefront Protection 2010 for Exchange Server or Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint server using the Forefront Management Shell. Before you create a package, you should have the XML file prepared.

Some policy settings, may require a restart of services on your managed servers.

To create a policy package

  1. Click Packages, located in the Navigation Area under Job Management, to open the Package Management work pane.

  2. Click Create Package to open the Create Package work pane.

  3. Enter a name for the package in the Package Name field.

  4. Click Browse and locate and select the XML file you wish to use.

  5. Click Create.

  6. Select the sections of the policy you wish to apply in the Policy Sections pane. You can choose to select all sections or to select as many of the individual settings as needed. The choices are:

    • Antimalware Settings

    • Filter Settings

    • Global Settings

    • Incident Settings

    • Quarantine Settings

    • Notification Settings

    • Antispam Settings

    • FOPE Gateway Settings

    • Tracing Settings

    Note

    If you are uploading a configuration file for FPSP, the Antispam Settings and FOPE Gateway Settings options will be unavailable.

    Note

    Not all Forefront Protection settings directly correspond to the policy sections on this page. For example, some settings found on the Global Settings – Scan Options dialog box in Forefront Protection for Exchange, such as Inbound Target Types, are represented by the Antimalware Settings policy section in the console.

  7. Enter your Engine Update Credentials and FOPE Credentials in the appropriate fields, if applicable to the package you are creating. To provide engine update credentials, the Proxy or UNC Share must be enabled in the policy and the Global Settings policy section must be applied. To provide FOPE Credentials, the FOPE Gateway must be enabled in the policy and the FOPE Gateway policy section must be applied.

    Note

    If you are uploading a configuration file for FPSP, the fields in the Engine Update Credentials and FOPE Credentials sections will be unavailable.

  8. Click OK to complete the package configuration and add the new package to the Package Names list in the Package Management work pane.

Once you have created a policy package, you can deploy it by following the steps in Deployment Jobs.
