ImportantImportante
Before Configuration Manager 2007 imports configuration data, it verifys the file's digital signature. The digital signature verification might fail because the files have been tampered with or because the files have not been signed at all, which is common with applications written internally. Continue to import the configuration data only if you explicitly trust the publisher and the integrity of the files.

Configuration items are used when defining configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007, which in turn are assigned to collections so that client computers in the collection can evaluate their compliance according to the configuration items and the configuration baseline rules.

In addition to creating configuration items with the Configuration Manager console, you can import configuration items if they are in a cabinet (cab) file format and adhere to the supported SML schema.

You can import configuration data from the following sources:

  • Best practice configuration data that has been downloaded from the Microsoft® System Center Configuration Manager 2007 Configuration Pack Web page (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=71837).

  • Configuration data that has been exported from Configuration Manager 2007.

  • Configuration data that has been externally authored and conforms to the Service Modeling Language (SML) schema.

To import configuration items

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management.

  2. Right-click Configuration Items, Import Configuration Data to load the Import Configuration Data Wizard, and follow the wizard instructions.

    noteNota
For information about options in the wizard, see Import Configuration Data Wizard.
