How to Delete a Configuration Baseline in Desired Configuration Management

Configuration baselines in Configuration Manager 2007 contain predefined configuration items and configuration baseline rules around those configuration items. If you have configuration baselines you do not want, you can delete them. However, if you want to keep the configuration baseline and its assignment but temporarily do not want clients to assess their compliance with it, you can disable it.

Deleting the configuration baseline will delete any assignments associated with that configuration baseline, but it will not delete any configuration items it contained.

Other configuration baselines might include the configuration baseline you want to delete. To confirm that it is not being used by another configuration baseline, click the Relationships tab on the configuration baseline properties and confirm that no configuration baselines are listed.

To delete a configuration baseline

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Desired Configuration Management / Configuration Baselines.

  2. Click the configuration baseline you want to delete, and press Delete. Click Show in the Confirm Delete dialog box.

  3. In the Assignments tab, view the assignments for the configuration baseline so that you are aware that these will also be deleted when you delete the configuration baseline.

  4. In the Dependent Baselines tab, view any configuration baselines that include the configuration baseline in its rules. When you delete the configuration baseline, these dependent baselines are automatically modified to remove this configuration baseline from its rules.

  5. Click OK.
