Network Settings - WINS

You can specify the WINS servers that will be used by the Configuration Manager 2007 client to resolve NetBIOS names on the WINS tab. The WINS servers will be queried in the order that they are specified.

To add a new WINS server IP address, click the New button to launch the TCP/IP WINS server dialog box. Enter the IP address of the WINS server.

You can configure the following settings:

 

Setting Description

Enable LMHOSTS lookup

Select this option to allow the Configuration Manager 2007 client to use an LMHOSTS file. The LMHOSTS file is one method of name resolution for NetBIOS name resolution for TCP/IP networks.

Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Select this option to allow NETBIOS over TCP/IP. This setting will allow NetBIOS traffic, regardless of any DHCP settings. This is the default setting for remote connections (dial-up or virtual private network).

Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

Select this option to disable NetBIOS traffic over a TCP/IP network regardless of the DHCP settings specified.
