How to Delete a Subcollection

Aplica-se a: System Center Configuration Manager 2007, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R3, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP1, System Center Configuration Manager 2007 SP2

Deleting a subcollection is similar to deleting a collection, and is done using the Delete Collection Wizard. This provides you with the opportunity to view the effects of deleting the subcollection from your site.

When you delete a subcollection, that subcollection is removed completely from the Configuration Manager 2007 database. This deletion also removes the following:

  • Any instances of the subcollection that are subcollections of another collection.

  • Any child subcollections of this collection that are not linked to or subcollections of another collection.

  • Any advertisements for the subcollection.

  • All security rights to the subcollection.

Because all child subcollections are removed when you delete a subcollection, you should delete any such child subcollections before deleting this subcollection. This will give you the opportunity to see the impact of deleting each of those subcollections individually. Deleting a collection or subcollection using the Delete Collection Wizard shows the effects of deleting only that collection; it does not show the extended effects of deleting associated subcollections.

You must have Delete permissions for the Collection security object type to remove a subcollection. For more information about security permissions, see Classes and Instances for Object Security in Configuration Manager.

To delete a subcollection

  1. In the Configuration Manager console, navigate to System CenterConfiguration Manager / Site Database / Computer Management / Collections.

  2. Right-click the subcollection that you want to delete, and then click Delete.

  3. Use the Delete Collection Wizard to delete the specific subcollection.

For additional information about this wizard, see Delete Collection Wizard.
