How to Move Hosts to a Host Group

Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1

You can use the following methods to move one or more virtual machine hosts to a host group:

  • Drag the selected hosts and drop them into to a host group.

  • Use the Move to host group action.

With either method, you can select and move multiple hosts, and your selection can include hosts in different host groups.

To move hosts to a host group by using the drag-and-drop method

  1. In Hosts view, in the navigation pane, navigate to the host group that contains the hosts you want to move and then select the hosts.

    Note

    To select multiple consecutive hosts, hold down the SHIFT key while you click the first and the last host in the set. To select multiple hosts that are not sequential, hold down the CTRL key while you click each host.

  2. With the hosts selected, drag the hosts to the target host group in the navigation pane.

To move hosts to a host group by using the "Move to host group" action

  1. In Hosts view, navigate to the host group that contains the hosts you want to move.

  2. In the results pane, select the hosts you want to move.

    Note

    To select multiple consecutive hosts, hold down the SHIFT key while you click the first and the last host in the set. To select multiple hosts that are not sequential, hold down the CTRL key while you click each host.

  3. In the Actions pane, under Host, click Move to host group.

  4. In the Move Hosts dialog box, under Parent host group, click the host group you want to move the hosts to and then click OK.
