How to Add and Display Custom Properties for a Host

Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1

You can use the Custom Properties tab in the Host Properties dialog box to assign as many as 10 custom properties to a host. You can add columns for custom properties to the results pane of Hosts view, and then click the column header for a custom property column to sort your virtual machines by that property.

To add custom properties to a host

  1. In Hosts view, double-click a host in the results pane to open the Host Properties dialog box.

  2. In the Host Properties dialog box, click the Custom tab.

  3. Enter values in any of the 10 numbered custom property fields.

To display custom properties for hosts

  1. In Hosts view, click All Hosts to display all hosts in the results pane.

  2. To add a custom property column to the results pane, right-click anywhere on the column header row, and then click the custom field you want to add.

  3. To sort hosts alphanumerically by custom field entries, click the column header for the custom field.

  4. To position the column, drag the column header left or right in the header row.

To display custom properties for hosts by using Select Columns

  1. In Hosts view, click All Hosts to display all hosts in the results pane.

  2. On the toolbar, click Columns to open the Select Columns dialog box.

  3. In the Select Columns dialog box, select the check box for each custom property that you want to add to the results pane.

  4. To change the order of the columns, highlight a column header and then click Move Up or Move Down.
