How to Manage Checkpoints

Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1

Use the Checkpoints tab in the Virtual Machine Properties dialog box to manage checkpoints.

You can manage checkpoints for a virtual machine only when the virtual machine is deployed on a host.

To manage checkpoints for a virtual machine

  1. In Virtual Machines view, navigate to the host on which the virtual machine is deployed.

  2. In the results pane, click the virtual machine, and then, in the Actions pane, click Manage checkpoints.

  3. Use buttons on the Checkpoints tab to perform the following actions:

    New—Create a new checkpoint that can be used to restore a virtual machine to its current state. For more information, see How to Create a Checkpoint.

    Remove—Remove a checkpoint that is no longer needed. For more information, see How to Remove a Checkpoint.

    Restore—Restore a virtual machine to its state when a checkpoint was created. For more information, see How to Restore a Virtual Machine to a Checkpoint.

    Properties—Modify the name or description of a checkpoint, and view the hardware configuration of a checkpoint. For more information, see How to Edit Checkpoint Properties.
