Disconnect from a Session

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

When you disconnect from a session, your programs will continue to run in a disconnected state. When you reconnect, you will be reconnected to the same session, as long as the session is still running on the remote computer.

Any user account can be used to complete this procedure. However, to establish or to log off a session, membership in the Remote Desktop Users group on the remote computer is the minimum required. Review details about using the appropriate accounts and group memberships at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=83477.

To disconnect from a session

  1. In the console tree of the Remote Desktops snap-in, right-click the name of the connection that you want to disconnect.

  2. Click Disconnect.

Note

To log off the remote computer, you must log off from within the Remote Desktop session.
