Add Files and Folders by Using $OEM$ Folders

Use the folders within a distribution share used to organize and copy supplemental files to a reference or destination computer during a customized Windows® installation.

Files and folders stored in subfolders of \$OEM$ Folders can be referenced in an answer file. Files stored in these folders can be copied to the reference or destination computer automatically by using a configuration set. For more information, see Create a Configuration Set.

Important

Do not overwrite existing files carried and serviced by the operating system. Overwriting system files can cause the operating system to behave unexpectedly and result in serious issues.

To add files and folders to $OEM$ Folders

  1. Open a distribution share. See Open a Distribution Share.

  2. Right-click, and then select Explore Distribution Share.

    Windows Explorer opens and displays the folders in the distribution share.

  3. Double-click the folder: $OEM$ Folders.

    The $OEM$ Folders folder opens.

  4. Copy files to your distribution share using the folder structure described in Understanding Distribution Shares and Configuration Sets. For example, if you add files to $OEM$ Folders\$1\Program Files\Application1, Windows Setup will copy them to C:\Program Files\Application1 on the reference or destination computer.

  5. Close the distribution share folder.

The files are available in the Distribution Share pane under the $OEM$ Folders node.
