Code 18: Reinstall the drivers for this device

Device Manager displays the following message in the Device Properties dialog box, on the General tab, in the Device Status text box:

Reinstall the drivers for this device. (Code 18)

Diagnosis

The drivers for this device must be reinstalled.

Resolution

In the Device Properties dialog box, on the Driver tab, click Update Driver to start the Hardware Update wizard. Alternatively, you can uninstall the driver, and then click Scan for hardware changes to reload the drivers.

Important

If you run the Hardware Update wizard and the wizard does not find your drivers, it means that the manufacturer or vendor for your device has not added the drivers for your device to Windows Update. In this case, you must refer to your product documentation or visit the web site of your device manufacturer or vendor to download or request the correct drivers for your device.
