Cancel a Restart or Shutdown

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2

Membership in the local Users group, or equivalent, is the minimum required to complete this procedure.

To cancel a restart or shutdown

  1. Open Command Prompt.

  2. Type shutdown /a within the time-out period.

Additional considerations

  • To start Command Prompt, click Start, click All Programs, expand Accessories, and click Command Prompt.

  • Another way to start Command Prompt is to click Start, click in the Search box, type cmd, and press ENTER.

  • For more information about the shutdown command, type shutdown /? at a command prompt.

  • You cannot cancel a restart or shutdown using the Shutdown Event Tracker Windows interface. It is only possible to perform this task from the command line.
