Select the Target Operating System
Applies To: Windows Server 2008 R2
When you create a connection profile, you must specify the operating systems that it supports. Connection Manager 1.4 and its Administration Kit (CMAK) in Windows Server® 2008 R2 add support for features that require Windows Vista®, Windows Server® 2008, Windows® 7, or Windows Server 2008 R2 on the client computer. Selecting the correct target operating system group ensures that the most appropriate features are available to the users of the profile.
Important
A Connection Manager profile that is created on a 64-bit version of Windows can be installed and run only on computers that are also running a 64-bit version of Windows. This includes Windows XP x64 Edition, Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition, and the 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7.
To create a Connection Manager profile for a computer that is running a 32-bit version of Windows, you must run CMAK on a computer that is running a 32-bit version of Windows. Because Windows Server 2008 R2 is available only as a 64-bit operating system, you can use the 32-bit version of Windows 7. To install CMAK on a 32-bit version of Windows 7, in Control Panel, click Programs, click Turn Windows Features on or off, select RAS Connection Manager Administration Kit feature, and then click OK.
