To resolve this error, follow these steps:

  • Upgrade the version of Windows Update on the computer that logged this event. To do this, visit the Microsoft Update Web site and update your server. When you connect to that Web site, your system will be checked. You will be instructed to download and install the most recent version of Microsoft Update.

  • Review the WindowsUpdate.log file for information that could indicate the cause of the problem. By default, WindowsUpdate.log is located in the C:\Windows directory on the Windows server. If needed, you can configure the WindowsUpdate.log for extended logging by enabling verbose logging. To enable verbose logging, add the following registry key with two values:

    Value data: 00000004

Note   This registry key turns on an extended tracing to any attached debuggers.

    Caution   不正确地编辑注册表时,可能导致出现严重问题,从而需要重新安装操作系统。因不正确地编辑注册表而导致出现的问题是能够解决的问题。编辑注册表之前,请备份所有重要数据。
