The Microsoft Exchange System Attendant is one of the core services in Microsoft Exchange. The following Microsoft Exchange System Attendant subcomponents are loaded by the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant:

  • DSProxy.DLL - Proxies Active Directory requests from Microsoft Outlook clients

  • DSAccess.DLL - Proxies Active Directory requests from other Exchange components

  • Recipient Update Service (Abv_dg.DLL) - Applies recipient polices to mail-enabled user objects

  • Mailbox Manager component - Controls the size of an information store; forces policies such as mailbox quota policies and message retention policies

  • Server Monitor component - Monitors the Exchange Server link state

  • Offline Address Book Generator (OABgen.DLL) - Allows offline access to the address book (the OABgen.DLL file is stored in an Exchange Server public folder subfolder named Offline Address Book)

  • Free/Busy component - Used to access free/busy data from a potential meeting attendee's calendar

  • Metabase Update Service (Ds2mb.DLL) - Updates the IIS metabase (the IIS metabase is located in the System Root\System32\inetsrv folder)
