Explanation

This Error event indicates that the Out of Office (OOF) Assistant could not read the Out of Office configuration data for the user mailbox specified in the event description. The Out of Office configuration data indicates whether a mailbox is configured for automatic OOF replies to new emails and appointments. This event may occur if one or more of the following conditions are true:

  • The Microsoft® Exchange Mailbox Assistants service has identified the mailbox as corrupted.

  • The mailbox is in a disconnected state, that is, it is not associated with a user account.

  • The mailbox is being moved from one mailbox database to a different mailbox database.

  • The Mailbox Assistants service cannot establish a session with the Exchange store.

User Action

To resolve this error, take one or more of the following steps:

  • Make sure that the mailbox for the user specified in the event description is not corrupted. A corrupted mailbox may also prevent a user from successfully logging on to a Microsoft Outlook® client or Outlook Web Access (OWA).

  • Make sure that the mailbox is not in a disconnected state. A disconnected mailbox displays a red cross next to its icon in the Exchange Management Console.

  • Make sure that the mailbox is not being moved to a different mailbox database.

  • Increase the diagnostic logging level of the OOF Assistance category on the MSExchangeMA service. After you increase the diagnostic logging level, you will see more events that are specific to this error in the Application log. These related events may help you find the root cause of this error. To increase the diagnostic logging level, follow the steps shown here:

Caution   Incorrectly editing the registry can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Problems resulting from editing the registry incorrectly may not be able to be resolved. Before editing the registry, back up any valuable data.

    1. Start Registry Editor (regedit).

    2. Locate the following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeMA\Diagnostics

    3. In the results pane, change the Value data of OOF Assistant key to 5.

    4. Exit Registry Editor.

  • Restart the Mailbox Assistants service from the Services console.
