Device Management Node of the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console

Use the Device Management node of the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console Administration pane to perform the post-installation configuration of specific Management Servers, agent-managed computers, agentless managed computers, and network devices. For more information about these managed objects, see About Deploying Operations Manager 2007.

Management Servers

Use the Management Servers node of the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console Administration pane to perform the following tasks on the selected Management Server:

Configure or disable the server component of the Client Monitoring feature of Operations Manager 2007. For more information about Client Monitoring, see Client Monitoring in Operations Manager 2007.
Open views, such as an Alert view, for the selected Management Server. For more information about views, see Views in Operations Manager 2007.
View the properties of a Management Server. For more information, see How to View the Properties of a Managed Object in Operations Manager 2007.
Use Active Directory Domain Services to assign computers to a Root Management Server and secondary Management Servers for the Management Group. For more information, see Using Active Directory Domain Services to Assign Computers to Operations Manager 2007 Management Groups.
Override the Management Group heartbeat failure setting, and configure the number of missed heartbeats a specific Management Server will allow for an agent before the state of the respective computer is changed to critical. Override the Management Group Manual Agent Installs setting, and configure the Management Server to reject or display new manually installed agents in Pending Management for review. If the setting is configured for review, the Management Server can also be configured to Auto-approve approve new manually installed agents. Configure an Operations Manager 2007 Management Server as a proxy for agentless managed computers. For more information, see How to Configure an Operations Manager 2007 Management Server as a Proxy for Agentless-Managed Computers.
Configure the Internet proxy server settings for the Management Server. You must configure these settings if the client monitoring feature is configured to transmit and receive data from Microsoft. For information about Client Monitoring, see Client Monitoring in Operations Manager 2007.

Agent-Managed Computers

Use the Agent Managed node of the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console Administration pane to perform the following tasks on the selected agent-managed computer:

Change the Root Management Server for the selected agent-managed computer. You would do this, for example, if you need to load balance the number of agent-managed computers assigned to Root Management Servers. For more information, see How to Change the Primary Management Server for an Operations Manager 2007 Agent-Managed Computer.
Repair the installation of the agent on the selected agent-managed computers. For more information see How to Repair an Agent in Operations Manager 2007.
Uninstall the agent from the selected agent-managed computers. Uninstalling the agent also deletes the respective computer from the Operations Manager database of each Management Group the computer is a member of, if the agent can communicate with its Management Server for the Management Group. The computer is not deleted from the reporting database.
Delete a computer from the Management Group that cannot communicate with the Management Server by using the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console. For more information about uninstalling the agent, see How to Uninstall an Operations Manager 2007 Agent.

Important

If an agent-managed computer is a proxy for agentless managed computers or network devices, it is recommended that these objects are first configured to use a different proxy to maintain uninterrupted management of them. For more information, see How to Configure an Agentless Managed Computer to Use a Different Operations Manager 2007 Proxy Agent or How to Configure a Network Device to Use a Different Operations Manager 2007 Proxy Agent.
Open views, such as an Alert view, for the selected agent-managed computer. For more information, see How to Open a View for an Operations Manager 2007 Managed Object. For information about views, see Views in Operations Manager 2007.
Delete an agent-managed computer from an Operations Manager 2007 Management Group. Deleting a managed object removes it from the Operations Manager database of the Operations Manager 2007 Management Group. The computer is not deleted from the reporting database. Deleting an object does not uninstall the agent. For information about uninstalling the agent, see How to Uninstall an Operations Manager 2007 Agent.
Deleting a managed object is done when an agent-managed computer cannot communicate with its Management Server for the Management Group. For more information, see How to Delete an Operations Manager 2007 Managed Object from a Management Group.
View the properties of an agent-managed computer. For more information, see How to View the Properties of a Managed Object in Operations Manager 2007.
Override the Management Group agent heartbeat settings, and configure how often the selected agent-managed computer sends a heartbeat to its Management Server. A heartbeat is a periodic pulse from an agent to its Management Server that contains information related to the health of the agent. Configure an Operations Manager 2007 agent-managed computer as a proxy for agentless managed computers. For information about agentless managed computers, see Configuring Objects to Be Managed by Operations Manager 2007.

Agentless Managed Computers

Use the Agentless Managed node of the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console Administration pane to perform the following tasks on the selected agentless managed computer.

Configure an agentless managed computer to use a different Operations Manager 2007 proxy agent. You would do this, for example, if you need to load balance the number of agentless managed computers managed by a proxy agent. The proxy can be any agent-managed computer. For more information, see How to Configure an Agentless Managed Computer to Use a Different Operations Manager 2007 Proxy Agent.

Delete an agentless managed computer from an Operations Manager 2007 Management Group. Deleting a managed object removes it from the Operations Manager database of the Operations Manager 2007 Management Group. The computer is not deleted from the reporting database. Deleting a managed object is the only method to remove agentless managed computers from a Management Group. Network Devices

Use the Network Devices node of the Operations Manager 2007 Operations Console Administration pane to perform the following tasks on the selected network devices and computers running operating systems other than Microsoft Windows.

Configure a managed network device or computer running an operating system other than Windows to use a different Operations Manager 2007 proxy agent. You would do this, for example, if you need to load balance the number of devices managed by a proxy agent. For more information, see How to Configure a Network Device to Use a Different Operations Manager 2007 Proxy Agent.
Open views, such as an Alert view, for the selected network device or computer running an operating system other than Windows. For more information, see How to Open a View for an Operations Manager 2007 Managed Object. For information about views, see Views in Operations Manager 2007.
Delete a network device from an Operations Manager 2007 Management Group. Deleting a managed object removes it from the Operations Manager database of the Operations Manager 2007 Management Group. The object is not deleted from the reporting database. Deleting a managed object is the only method to remove network device computers from a Management Group. View the properties of a network device. For more information, see How to View the Properties of a Managed Object in Operations Manager 2007.

Pending Management

An agent installed with MOMagent.msi needs to be approved for the Management Group if the Management Group or the Root Management Server for the agent is configured to Review new manual agent installations in pending management view but not Auto-approve new manually installed agents.
