Synchronization Report

Published : April 8, 2005 | Updated : August 17, 2005

The Synchronization Report illustrates successes and failures of synchronization jobs over time. It depicts frequency of failures by 6-hour increments over a 24-hour time period, and lists the top three reasons for failure. The data is collected per file server and aggregated for all file servers or per protection group and aggregated for all protection groups.

The first page of the report, the summary page, shows synchronization job statistics for all file servers or protection groups at a file server or protection group level, as specified in the report parameters. Subsequent pages, the detailed pages, show synchronization job details for each file server or protection group at a volume level.

Frequently asked questions

As you review the data in the Synchronization Report, you may have questions about how to use the data or interpret the report.

Why is the number of synchronization job failures increasing?

The rising trend of synchronization job failures may be due to increased recovery requests, which have a higher priority than synchronization jobs. These failures could also to be due to issues with inconsistent replicas, network failures, or user-initiated cancellations of synchronization jobs. The Synchronization Report lists the top three reasons for failures across all file servers or protection groups. You can view the details for specific synchronization jobs in the Monitoring task area. For more information, see How to display job details.

How can I use the Failure Time Distribution chart?

Failure time distribution indicates how many synchronization jobs failed during each specified 6-hour time period. If a particular time period has an inordinately higher percentage of failures than other time periods, there may be network issues or too many jobs running at the same time. You can investigate the possible causes and, if appropriate, modify the protection schedule to minimize synchronization failures. For more information, see How to modify protection options.
