How to browse for recoverable data

Shadow copies of protected data contain the same folder and file structures as the data sources, making it easy to browse to the data you want to recover. You can browse through the shadow copies of each replica to find copies of the protected data.

To browse for recoverable data

  1. In DPM Administrator Console, click Recovery on the navigation bar.

  2. On the Browse tab, in the Servers with recoverable data pane, expand and select servers, folders, and subfolders until you find the data you are looking for.

    • As you select nodes in the browse pane on the left, the names of the folders and files in that node are displayed in the results pane on the right.

    • If you protected shares, you can browse the shadow copies in either All Protected Shares or All Protected Volumes. If you protected volumes, you can only browse for shadow copies in All Protected Volumes.

    • Only the 10 most recent shadow copies are displayed in the browse pane immediately under the volume or share node. All other shadow copies are grouped together under a single node, Older versions.

  3. To limit a search to a selected node, right-click the node in the browse pane, and then click Search.

This opens the Search tab and pre-defines the search criteria based on the selection that you made.

  4. Specify the File or folder name criteria and click Search. The search results are displayed in the pane on the right.
