Starting the product

Applies to: Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint

After installing Microsoft Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint (FPSP), administrators can configure it by launching the Forefront Management Shell or the Forefront Protection 2010 for SharePoint Administrator Console user interface.

To launch the Forefront Management Shell

  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Forefront Server Protection, and then click Forefront Management Shell.

For more information about working in this environment, see Using Windows PowerShell.

To launch the Administrator Console user interface

  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Microsoft Forefront Server Protection, and then click Forefront Protection for SharePoint Console.

Important

It is recommended that you close the FPSP Administrator Console user interface before performing any configuration changes via PowerShell. Otherwise, you risk inadvertently overwriting configuration changes because you are simultaneously working in multiple environments.

Tip

If you are managing FPSP on multiple SharePoint servers, in an enterprise, for example, you can use the Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC), rather than the Administrator Console. You can download FPSMC from the Microsoft Download Center at the following location: Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC) 2010. Documentation for FPSMC can be found in the TechNet library at Forefront Protection Server Management Console.
