Configuring VMM System Settings

The configuration of Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) 2008 and VMM 2008 R2 system settings is optional depending on how you implement VMM in your environment. This topic describes the systemwide settings that you can modify in Administration view of the VMM Administrator Console.
General System Settings
The information in the following table describes the system settings for VMM that you can set by using the General node in Administration view and provides links to the VMM Help topics for step-by-step instructions for modifying each system setting.

Database Connection |
Displays the server name, instance name, and database name of the VMM database. This setting is read-only. |

Library Settings |
Modifies the frequency of automatic library refreshes, or disables scheduled refreshes. |

Sets defaults for calculating host ratings during virtual machine placement. |

PRO Settings |
Enables Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO) tips and sets defaults for the severity level of PRO tips that are presented in the VMM Administrator Console. |

Remote Control |
Assigns the ports for remotely connecting to virtual machines running on Hyper-V or on Virtual Server, and optionally specifies Virtual Machine Remote Control (VMRC) access accounts to grant administrators permission to connect to all virtual machines running on Virtual Server. |

Self-Service Administrative Contact |
Specifies the e-mail address of the administrative contact for self-service users if they have a question or issue. |

Note
The following system settings cannot be set until you have configured Operations Manager 2007 integration with VMM 2008 to support reporting and Performance and Resource Optimization (PRO). For more information, see Configuring Operations Manager Integration with VMM.

Specifies the range of static MAC addresses for VMM to use during auto-generation of static MAC addresses for new virtual network devices.
