How to Remove a Virtual Machine

Applies To: Virtual Machine Manager 2008, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2, Virtual Machine Manager 2008 R2 SP1

Use the following procedure to remove a virtual machine. You can remove a virtual machine when it is deployed or when it is stored in the library. When you remove a virtual machine, its configuration file and all attached virtual hard disks are deleted.

To remove a virtual machine

  1. If the virtual machine is deployed, in Virtual Machines view, expand All Hosts, and then navigate to the host on which the virtual machine is deployed to display the virtual machines on the host.

    -Or-

    If the virtual machine is stored in the library, in Library view, click Library Server. Then, under Filters, expand Type, and select the Virtual Machine check box to display stored virtual machines.

  2. In the results pane, click the virtual machine, and then, in the Actions pane, click Delete for a virtual machine on a host, or Remove for a virtual machine in the library.

  3. At the confirmation prompt, click Yes.
