Windows Distributed File Systems Management Pack Readme

適用於: Operations Manager 2007

The Microsoft Windows Distributed File Systems (DFS) Management Pack monitors the health and performance of the DFS service that is running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The DFS Management Pack can also monitor clients for the availability of DFS shares.

This readme describes how to install the DFS Management Pack in Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007.

The DFS Management Pack for Operations Manager 2007 was converted from the DFS Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. The management pack guide included in the download is the MOM 2005 management pack guide. The October 2008 updated release of this management pack includes the following change:

  • References to support of Microsoft Windows 2000 Server have been removed from the guide included in the download.

For more information about the DFS Management Pack and how to use it, see the 2005 Windows DFS Management Pack Guide at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89240.

Before You Import the DFS Management Pack

Before you import the DFS Management Pack, you must install the updated Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Backward Compatibility Management Pack, version 6.0.5000.1. You can download Backward Compatibility Management Pack at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89473.

注意

If you do not install the updated Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 Backward Compatibility Management Pack before you install the DFS Management Pack, installation of the DFS Management Pack will fail.

Supported Applications

The DFS Management Pack monitors the Distributed File Systems service on computers that are running Windows Server 2003. The DFS Management Pack does not monitor computers that are running Windows 2000.

注意

You can run only one localized version of a converted Management Pack at a time. To use a version of the DFS Management Pack for a different language, uninstall the DFS Management Pack, and then install the version of the DFS Management Pack for the language that you want.

For the DFS Management Pack to function optimally, your computers must meet the following requirements:

  • Computers that are running the DFS service must be managed by System Center Operations Manager 2007.

  • Computers that are hosting DFS root targets and DFS link targets must be managed by System Center Operations Manager 2007.

  • The DFS Management Pack requires the use of the Distributed File System Utility (dfsutil.exe) version 1.1.1, which is included in the Windows Support Tools. For Windows Server 2003, you can install Windows Support Tools from the Windows 2003 CD media.

DFS Management Pack rules must be configured with the installation folder of the Dfsutil.exe utility. It is recommended that you install the utility in the same folder on all your computers. Otherwise, you must use overrides to specify the various installation folders. For information about the default values for the installation folder and configuration requirements for non-default values, see "Configuring Monitoring Scenarios" in the DFS Management Pack Guide.

How to Import the DFS Management Pack

Download the latest DFS Management Pack files from https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=82105. By default, the installer places the DFS Management Pack in its own folder in the following directory: C:\Program Files\System Center Management Packs.

The contents of the DFS Management Pack are as follows:

File Name Description

Microsoft.Windows.Server.DFS.mp

Required for discovering and monitoring computers that are running the DFS service.

After you download the DFS Management Pack, import it into System Center Operations Manager.

To import the DFS Server Management Pack

  1. In the Operations Console, on the Go menu, click Administration.

  2. In the navigation pane, expand Administration.

  3. Right-click Management Packs, click Import Management Packs, select Microsoft.Windows.Server.DFS (Converted), and then click Open.

  4. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

For more information, see "How to Import Management Packs in Operations Manager 2007" in System Center Operations Manager 2007 Help.

Optional Configuration

After you import the DFS Management Pack, it begins to discover and monitor computers without additional configuration. You can, however, configure the DFS Management Pack for your environment and your preferences. For example, if the event-collection rules degrade performance on your servers with slow WAN links, you can turn them off.

To disable a rule

  1. In the Operations Console, on the Go menu, click Authoring.

  2. In the navigation pane, expand Management Pack Objects, and then click Rules.

    注意

To show rules for the DFS Management Pack only, on the toolbar, click Scope, and then under Target, select the check boxes for the DFS components.

  3. Under Rules, right-click the rule that you want, point to Overrides, point to Disable the Rule, and then click For all objects of type: <type of object>.

For more information about the optional configurations for different monitoring scenarios, see the DFS Management Pack Guide at https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=89240.
