Most Common Events Report Knowledge

The Most Common Events report shows the most common events raised for selected objects during a specific time period and for given filter parameters.

Description

The Most Common Events report helps to identify high volume events, the agent they originated from, and the volume a distinct event contributes to the total number of events. This report is helpful in tuning events.

Parameters

Parameter Description

Date/Time Selection

Defines the time period for the report with relative or fixed dates.

Object Picker

Enables the selection of groups or objects for which to show alerts.

When you are using the object picker, selecting Add Group will return the group and all objects it contains. Add Object returns only the selected object.

Source

Enables you to filter by the event source. The default is all.

Type

Enables you to filter by the event type. The default is all.

Category

Enables you to filter on the event category. The default is all.

N

Specifies the number of events to show.

Sample Usage

Use the Most Common Event report to create a report that shows the top five events from the root management server from Monday to Friday last week.

  1. Open the Most Common Events report.

  2. Select Previous Week > Monday in the From list.

  3. Select Previous Week > Friday in the To list.

  4. Click Add Group.

  5. In the search box, type Root Management, and then click Search.

  6. Select Root Management Server Computer Group, and then click Add.

  7. Click OK.

  8. Change the N parameter to 5.

  9. Click Run to view report.

The generated report shows the following:

  • A chart and table showing the overall most common Events

  • Per object

  • Source

  • Event Log

  • Event Type

  • Event ID

  • Event Count

  • Activity %

  • Sample Description
