Internal scanning

Applies to: Forefront Protection for Exchange

The basic configuration for internal mail scanning is shown in the following image.

Internal scan 2

The following tasks occur during internal scanning:

  1. Internal mail is scanned at the first Hub Transport server.

  2. The scanned mail is stamped when identified as safe and routed to the destination Mailbox server without additional scanning.

Benefit: Scanning at the Hub Transport server helps ensure that mail is free of malware before it arrives at a Mailbox server in your internal messaging infrastructure.
