Outbound scanning

Applies to: Forefront Protection for Exchange

The basic configuration for outbound mail scanning is shown the following image.

Outbound scan 2

The following tasks occur for outbound scanning:

  1. Mail is scanned at the first Hub Transport server.

  2. The mail is stamped when identified as safe, and routed to the Edge Transport server (if deployed) without additional scanning.

Benefit: Scanning at the Hub Transport server helps ensure that mail is free of malware before it exits your internal messaging infrastructure. It also reduces the processing load on the Edge Transport and Mailbox servers.
