How to Create a State View

The following procedure shows how to create a state view in the Operations Manager 2007 Authoring console and then configure the state view by using both the Operations console and the Authoring console.

Before you perform this procedure, you must first complete the prerequisite procedure How to Create a Class in which you create the target class.

The view created in this procedure has the following characteristics:

  • Includes instances of the My Computer Role 1 class that are in a Critical or Warning health state.

  • Displays the following columns:

    • State of the object

    • Maintenance Mode

    • Name

    • Path

    • Version

    • State of instances of My Computer Role 2 hosted by the object

  • Sorted by the following columns:

    • State of the object

    • State of instances of My Computer Role 2 hosted by the object

    • Name

To create state view

  1. In the Authoring console, select Presentation, and then select Views.

  2. Expand Microsoft.SystemCenter.Monitoring.ViewFolder.Root.

  3. Right-click MyMP.Folder.Top, select New, and then select State View.

  4. On the General tab, do the following:

    1. In the Element ID box, select MyMP.View.State.MyComputerRole1.

    2. In the Display Name box, type My Computer Role 1. Click OK.

    3. In the Target box, select MyMP.MyComputerRole1.

    4. In the Category box, select StateCollection.

  5. Click Finish.

  6. Right-click MyMP.MyComputerRole1 and select Properties.

  7. On the Folder tab, do the following:

    1. Click to clear Microsoft.SystemCenter.Monitoring.ViewFolder.Root.

    2. Select MyMP.Folder.Top.

  8. Click OK.

  9. Select File, and then click Save.

To install the management pack

  1. In the Authoring console, select the Tools menu, and then select Export MP to Management Group.

  2. Select the management group.

  3. Click Connect.

To modify the view in the Operations console

  1. In the Operations console, select Monitoring.

  2. Expand the My Management Pack folder.

  3. Right-click My Computer Role 1, and then select Properties.

  4. On the Criteria tab, do the following:

    1. Select with a specific health state.

    2. In the Criteria description box, click specific.

    3. Select Critical and Warning, and then click OK.

  5. On the Display tab, do the following:

    1. Select Version.

    2. Select My Computer Role 2.

    3. In the Sort columns by box select Name.

  6. Click OK.

To modify the view in the Authoring console

  1. In the Authoring console, select the Tools menu, and then select Import MP from Management Group.

  2. Select the management group.

  3. In the Import from Management Group dialog box, select MyMP and then click Import.

  4. Select Presentation, and then select Views.

  5. Expand the Microsoft.SystemCenter.Monitoring.ViewFolder.Root folder.

  6. Expand the MyMP.Folder.Top folder.

  7. Right-click MyMP.View.State.ComputerRole1, and then select Properties.

  8. On the Configuration tab, click Edit to start the external editor.

  9. Change the Sorted attribute to true for the following columns:

    • State

    • Name

    • My Computer Role 2

  10. Change the SortIndex attribute to the following values:

    • State: 0

    • Name: 2

    • My Computer Role 2: 1

  11. Close the external editor, and save the configuration in the Authoring console.

  12. Click OK.

  13. Select File, and then click Save.
