Installing FPSMC on a Stand-Alone Server

A Microsoft Forefront Protection Server Management Console (FPSMC) stand-alone installation provides all of the features except redundancy. You may subsequently select either an Express or Enterprise installation. If you select the Express installation, the FPSMC will automatically install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express, if it is not already present. If you select the Enterprise installation, you must have an instance of SQL Server 2008 or later installed remotely or locally and credentials to connect to the SQL Server through either Windows Integrated Security or SQL Server Authentication.

To install the FPSMC, you must have Local Admin or higher privileges.

To install the FPSMC on a stand-alone server using the Express installation

  1. Double-click setup.exe to launch the Setup wizard.

  2. Click Next on the Welcome page to proceed with the installation.

  3. Confirm that the Standalone option is selected under Server Roles, and then click Next.

  4. Confirm that the Express option is selected, and then click Check Prerequisites. If a pop-up appears listing prerequisites that need to be installed, click Yes to install them. To install SQL Server 2008 R2 Express (FPSMCDB instance), you must accept the end user license agreement.

  5. If Microsoft Chart Controls for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 is not already installed on the server, you must manually install it before you can continue. To install Microsoft Chart Controls for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, see Microsoft Chart Controls for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=202816).

    FPSMC automatically installs the following prerequisites: Internet Information Services (IIS), .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, and SQL Server 2008 R2 Express.

  6. In the Use Microsoft Update to help keep your computer secure and up-to-date dialog box, select whether you want to use Microsoft Update when you check for updates, and then click Next. When you opt-in to Microsoft Update, updates are enabled for all Microsoft products on the server. If the update schedule is already configured, Setup may skip this step. If the update schedule is not already configured, it is enabled to download and notify you of product updates.

  7. Read the license on the End-User License Agreement page. Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement, and then click Next.

  8. On the Select installation folder page accept the default folder or click Browse to select a different location for the folder. This is the folder into where executable files are placed. Click Next.

  9. On the Ready to install page click Install.

  10. Click Finish on the Installation complete page.

To install the FPSMC on a stand-alone server using the Enterprise installation

  1. Double-click the setup.exe file to launch the Setup wizard.

  2. Click Next on the Welcome page to proceed with the installation.

  3. Confirm that the Standalone option is selected under Server Roles, and then click Next.

  4. Select Enterprise, and then click Check Prerequisites. If a pop-up appears listing prerequisites to install, click Yes to install them.

  5. If Microsoft Chart Controls for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 has not already been installed on the server, you must manually install it before you can continue.   7. Enter the name of the database server or select the server from the drop-down list.

  8. Enter the appropriate credentials to connect to SQL Server in the NT Domain, User, and Password fields, click Test Logon, and then click Next.
