Using System Center Data Protection Manager 2010 Diagnostics Tool

適用於: System Center Data Protection Manager 2010

Before you use the Data Protection Manager Diagnostics Tool, be aware that:

  • You must run the tool as an administrator.

  • You must stop the DPMRA service otherwise the test cases will fail.

  • Tape-based tests will run on all available libraries.

  • Read/write tests will overwrite any existing information on the tape.

Using the Diagnostics Tool

To start the tool, browse to the <system drive>\Program Files\Microsoft DPM Diagnostic Agent\bin folder and run DPMDiagnostics.exe as Administrator.

Welcome page

The tool is wizard-based. When you run DPMDiagnostics.exe, you are presented with a screen that guides you through the process of diagnosing problems on your computer.

Test Criteria page

The tool automatically detects whether you are running it on a DPM server or not. If you are running it on a DPM server, it presents you with a choice to run both tape-based and communication-based tests. If you are running it on any other computer, you will only be able to run the communication-based tests.

If you are running the tool on a DPM server, you can choose to run both set of tests or any one of them using the check boxes provided.

Test Cases page

This page provides you with a list of all the test cases available for the selected tests. You can select which test cases to run using the check boxes provided.

When you click Next, you will be prompted for certain parameter values. You must provide these values to proceed.

Test Progress

This page shows you the progress of the test cases.

Test Results

This page shows you the results for each of the test cases run.

If there is a recommended action, click the link to see what you need to do to solve the problem. If the tool can perform the recommended action without user input, it will carry out the operation when you click the link. For instance, if you see the text No DPMRA exception found in the Recommended Action column, clicking the link will add the exception to the firewall.

You can also see a more detailed report using the link at the bottom of the results page.
