This error can occur for the following conditions:

The state of the DPM library changes without the changes being communicated to the DPM server. This can happen if tapes are removed, inserted, or moved without running a fast inventory after the operation.
The specified tape is in a drive and being backed up.
Detailed inventories can raise an error for a failure on each slot. If you have a lot of slots, you might receive too many failure error alerts.

To resolve this error, do the following:

Perform a fast inventory after each tape operation.
Ensure that the tape specified for a detailed inventory is not in a drive and being backed up.
To reduce the number of detailed inventory failure alerts, create the following registry key. To open the Registry Editor, click Start, click Run, and then type regedit.
