System Center 2012 – Data Protection Manager (DPM)






Symbolic Name


DPM failed to communicate with <ServerName> because the computer is unreachable.

User Action

To resolve this error, do the following:

  1. Ensure that <ServerName> is online and remotely accessible from the DPM server.

  2. If a firewall is enabled on <ServerName>, make sure that it is not blocking requests from the DPM server.

  3. If you are using a backup LAN, ensure that the backup LAN settings are valid.

  4. If you are using clustered remote SMB storage, you may see this error when a backup job tries to start just after the primary cluster owner is switched. If this is the case, wait for some time and retry the operation.
