Step 1: Creating a Direct Mail campaign item

Note

• Before you create a direct mail campaign, ensure that SQL Server Agent is running. If SQL Server Agent is not running, you will not be able to save your Direct Mail campaign.

1. In Campaigns, click Campaign Manager.
2. On the Campaign Manager screen, expand Adventure-Works, and then select the New Users campaign.
3. Click on the toolbar, and then select New Direct Mail from the drop-down list.
4. In the Campaign Manager – Adventure-Works – New Users – New (direct mail) screen, in the Direct Mail Properties section, do the following:

   Use this	To do this
   Direct mail name	Type TargetedMail.
   Message from e-mail address	Type WebMaster@Adventure-Works.com.
   Message subject	Type Special discount on hiking boots for our new customers.
   File path or URL containing message body	Type http://<server_name>/retail/ servicereminder.asp.
   Mailing list	Select NewUsers from the drop-down list.
   Personalize direct mail per user	Verify that this check box is selected because you are sending a personalized direct mail message for this tutorial.
   Mail Format	Select MHTML from the drop-down list. For information about mail formats, see Message Formats.

5. In the Mail Schedule section, do the following:

   Use this	To do this
   Start Date	Select today's date from the drop-down list.
   Start Time	Select the next full hour after the current hour from the drop-down list. Note Time is in 24-hour mode. For example, if is the time is currently 2:45 P.M., select 1500 from the drop-down list.
   Mailing Interval	Verify that One time only is displayed.

6. In the Test section, do the following:

   Use this	To do this
   Test	Select NewUsers from the drop-down list.
   Send Test Mail	Click to send test mail.

7. In the Direct Mail dialog box, click Yes.
8. To return to the Campaign Manager screen, click on the toolbar.

The direct mail campaign is added to the Campaign Manager module. Proceed to Step 2: Verifying that the test mail was sent.
