Windows Branch Cache

A technology that enables computers in a branch office to cache files and Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) traffic from intranet servers that have BranchCache enabled, and then provide the data to other computers in the branch office. This reduces network bandwidth usage, preserves Secure Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTPS) and Internet Protocol security (IPSec) encryption, and provides faster and more reliable access to the content. BranchCache is implemented on the server via a role service and an optional feature. The BranchCache for network files role service enables the caching and distribution of shared files using the Server Message Blocks (SMB) protocol, while the BranchCache for HTTP feature enables the caching and distribution of data obtained from servers using HTTP or HTTPS.
