Migrate Roaming Profiles and Remote Home Folders

If you are unsure whether you are using roaming profiles or remote home folders, you should check your user objects as described in the instructions below.

In Windows Server 2008, a new policy setting allows you to set roaming profiles for multiple users in a GPO. This policy setting only affects the Windows Server 2008 and the Windows Vista® operating systems. On these operating systems, the GPO takes priority over the user object settings. Because this document assumes that your environment has computers that are not yet running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, it is not recommended that you use this new policy setting. If you are, you should make changes to this setting and then proceed with the following steps to update your user objects.

This section includes instructions for how to:

Look for roaming profiles and remote home folders in user objects

Create new shared folders

Modify user properties
