Description

Determines whether the system can use the NTFS file system tracking features to resolve a shortcut.

By default, when the system cannot find the target file for a shortcut (.lnk), it searches all paths associated with the shortcut. If the target file is located on an NTFS partition, the system then uses the target's file ID to find a path. If the resulting path is not correct, it conducts a comprehensive search of the target drive in an attempt to find the file.

Prevents the system from using NTFS tracking features to resolve a shortcut.

By default, when the system cannot find the target file for a shortcut (.lnk), it searches all paths associated with the shortcut. If the target file is located on an NTFS partition, the system then uses the target's file ID to find a path. If the resulting path is not correct, it comprehensively searches the target drive to try to find the file.

If the value of this entry is 1, the system does not try to locate the file by using the file ID. It skips this step and begins to comprehensively search the drive specified in the target path.

This entry stores the setting of the Do not use the tracking-based method when resolving shell shortcuts Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes this entry from the registry, and the system behaves as though the value is 0.
