About Driving Guidance

The Driving Guidance feature of MapPoint works with the Route Planner and the GPS features to provide spoken and text instructions, visual turn indicators, and the distance to the next turn as you travel along a route.

Caution  Using MapPoint while driving can be distracting, dangerous, or prohibited (depending on location or manner of use). The driver remains responsible for safe travel, for obeying all traffic laws, and should exercise good judgment at all times.

Notes

To use the Driving Guidance feature of MapPoint your computer must support a screen resolution of at least 1024 by 786 pixels. At lower resolutions, the control buttons on the GPS task pane do not display.

To use voice instructions, your computer must be running Windows® XP operating system. Otherwise, the instructions display in the Driving Guidance pane, but they are not spoken. MapPoint includes a speech engine; however you can use a different one as long as it is Speech API (SAPI) 5.1 compatible.
