How to Modify a Self-Service Policy

Use the following procedure to modify self-service policies for a host group. To change the settings in a self-service policy, you modify the properties of the host group that contains the policy either by using the Edit self-service policies action or by using the Self-Service tab in Host Group Properties.

Self-service policies are not portable from one host group to another. Nor can you change the type of virtual machine ownership for a group self-service policy. Instead, you must create a new self-service policy.

Note

Self-service policies apply to each child host group of the host group that the polices are added to. However, the policies can be modified or removed only from the parent host group. Within the child host groups, the policies are shaded and unavailable.

To modify a self-service policy

  1. In Hosts view, expand All Hosts in the navigation pane, and then navigate to the host group that contains the self-service policy you want to modify.

  2. In the Actions pane, under Host Group, perform either of the following actions:

    • Click Edit self-service policies.
    • Click Properties, and then click the Self-Service tab.
  3. On the Self-Service tab of the Host Properties dialog box, select the self-service policy that you want to modify, and then click Properties.

This opens the New Self-Service Policy Wizard to the first settings that you can change in an existing self-service policy. Modify the following settings as needed.

    Note

Self-service policies that have been added to a parent host group of the current host group are displayed along with the self-service policies for the current host group. For those policies, the policy label identifies the host group that the policy is inherited from. To modify or remove a policy on a parent host group, you must edit the policies on that host group.

  4. On the VM Creation tab, optionally enable the user or group to create their own virtual machines. For more information, see How to Enable Self-Service Users to Create Virtual Machines (SCVMM).

  5. On the VM Management tab, grant virtual machine permissions to determine which actions the users can take on their virtual machines. For more information, see How to Grant Virtual Machine Management Permissions to Self-Service Users.

  6. On the Library Settings tab, optionally allow the users to store their virtual machines when they are not in use. For more information, see How to Allow Library Access for Self-Service Users.
