Sending a fax as e-mail

Fax

Microsoft® Windows® Small Business Server 2003 enables you to send a fax as though it were an e-mail message. Using Microsoft Office Outlook®  2003, you simply open a new message and enter a fax number or fax contact instead of, or in addition to, an e-mail address. You can select both fax and e-mail recipients.

When you send an e-mail message as a fax and attach a document, both the e-mail message and the attachment become part of the fax. For example, a one-page message with a five-page Microsoft Office Word 2003 attachment creates a six-page fax. Objects such as art or tables in a document appear in the fax.

Note

To send a fax as e-mail, you must have Fax Mail Transport installed. To find out if it is installed: In Outlook, on the Tools menu, click E-mail Accounts. Fax Mail Transport should be listed. If it is not, contact the person responsible for your network.
